I’m so aware of what I can’t do, can’t promise, can’t make better, and I wish I could. I wish I could offer safety and protection to everyone, especially to trans people and the families who love them and are scared, too, to the LGBTQ+ community, to immigrant communities, to anyone who saw themselves in Kamala Harris only to see the wrong guy get the job (again!), and to anyone who is now suddenly vulnerable in ways they did not expect. I hope there will be a moment when I can ally with each of you in just the right way, in a way in which you will be affirmed and celebrated in all the ways you deserve. In the meantime, just this: I send out love. Just love from me out to anyone reading this, anyone who needs to hear it and for whom it might be even a tiny bit of comfort.
That’s really all, but I guess I will say more. I’ve seen some “share this” posts that mean well, and I give everyone points for meaning well, but it asks us to declare ourselves safe for trans people, for example, and I feel that and also I tend to enjoy life as far as possible from most humans, so if you are human, sure, you can be safe around me, but I am going to keep backing away, so I’m not sure that is helpful. So instead, I send words and ideas out to you. Close your eyes, well, okay, read this first, and then do it. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. In that breath, imagine you are breathing in the love that you and I know still exists in this world and exists inside of you. Breathe out that love and share it with those who are able to receive it and amplify it.
Keep breathing. I will if you will.
